Tips for helping your kids kick the flu:
Cold and flu season is here and if you’re like me, my panty is stocked with flu fighting drinks, vitamins and foods.
As an adult, we all know that a bad cold or flu zaps us of energy and may leave us with little or no desire to eat or drink. This can be even more difficult for children.
Children are also more likely than adults to become dehydrated because they have a lower body masses so make sure you offer fluids to your child often.
You can also:
- Administer an over-the-counter pain reliever for aches and fever, such as acetaminophen (Tylenol) or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB). Just be sure to check the dosage amount, and choose a baby or child version if appropriate for your child’s age and weight.
- Have your child dress in layers and have plenty of blankets available if they have a fever and chills.
- Offer popsicles, Jello or Italian ices to help soothe their throat and alleviate fever.
- Encourage them to rest by creating an environment with minimal stimulation. I know it’s tempting to binge watch TV when they are sick but it may have a negative effect on their sleep.
Note: Having a sick child with the flu is stressful so remember to breath.
The best way to fight the flu is with a vitamin and mineral regime during the winter months. Daily, my kids take a good Multivitamin, Zinc, Vitamin C and extra Vitamin D. Here’s a picture of my kid-approved favorites:
In the meantime, stay healthy and be well my friends XXOO
