How Reiki Helps Your Body Heal Better

When you go to the doctor, they treat your symptoms — headaches, hives, broken arms, insomnia, depression…. whatever brought you to see them.

When you go to a Reiki practitioner, they treat you — the whole person.

WHAT?

Here’s how it works:

How Reiki Healing Helps

The Reiki practitioner will likely place their hands just above the part of your body that hurts (with your permission, of course). But they won’t stop there. If they are like me, they will also place their hands on your chakras, starting at your head and moving towards your feet.

You may notice sensations where the practitioner’s hands are. Most people do. Heat, seeing healing colors and subtle movement are very experiences.

During and after your treatment may notice that area of their body becomes more “open” and feel looser or more comfortable. If you had pain when the treatment started, it will likely diminish, and possibly disappear, even if the practitioner doesn’t work close to the painful area.

Reiki Balances

How is it possible for pain in one part of the body to disappear or be relieved with Reiki?

No matter where the Reiki practitioner’s hands are, no matter how wonderful that light contact may feel, the most important benefit of Reiki healing is what’s going on behind the scenes, inside the body, where it’s remembering what it knows best — how to heal itself. And the first step in self-healing is to restore balance.

Unlike the treat the symptom approach of conventional medicine, with interventions that act like a bandaid to solve the problem, Reiki healing does not target symptoms or conditions directly.

Reiki Works With The Parasympathetic Nervous System

Instead of battling to fix any one complaint head-on, an approach which often brings unwanted side effects, Reiki practice balances your entire body. When your body is balanced, your own self-healing abilities function at their very best.

While a Reiki hands hover or rest lightly on one particular area of the body, whether or not there is a discernible local response, there is an overall response as the body system shifts into parasympathetic nervous system (PNS) dominance.

Is this shift important?

When the PNS is working properly, the body is in rest-and-heal mode. This means its priority is to recover, to heal, to deeply nourish and restore itself. The body knows well how to do these things, but our busy lifestyle keeps us in reactive sympathetic nervous system (SNS) mode, where the body’s priority is coping (fight or flight), not healing.

Our bodies simply cannot cope and heal at the same time. It’s fight/flight or rest/heal — never both at the same time.

Through a mechanism science does not yet understand, Reiki practice helps our bodies shift into PNS self-healing mode. That’s very good news for anyone, no matter what challenges they face.

No matter what you have to deal with — even a health condition that cannot be cured — keeping your body balanced helps you feel better and function better, which in turn keeps you feeling better. It’s a positive feedback loop.

Of course practitioners like me can never promise specific results within a certain time frame — balance requires different self-adjustment for different people at different times — but it all starts with breathing, sleeping, and digesting better.

Here are the most common benefits my clients have reported:

  • Improved sleep
  • Improved digestion
  • Less anxiety
  • Less pain
  • Improved focus and memory
  • Improvement in depressive symptoms
  • Reduced side effects from medications and medical procedures
  • Faster recovery from injuries and surgery
  • Better moods
  • Enhanced resilience to stress
  • Improved self esteem
  • Greater social ease and satisfaction
  • Greater sense of purpose

Reiki Healing Improves Your Health

Whatever your physical or mental challenges, Reiki practice can help you. It may not be all that you need but it is a good place to start.

I started practicing Reiki on myself in 2001. After becoming a mother, I practiced Reiki on my children daily as well. Recently, I found a beautiful Reiki Mentor and completed Reiki I, II and then Reiki Master again. After I brushed up my practice, I started offering it to my Wellness clients. In my experience, Reiki compliments MealDiva’s healing through nutrition services beautifully.

I practice Reiki on myself daily and the one thing I can tell you is: not only can Reiki healing help you, it can help you help yourself.

I practice Reiki in New Jersey and would love to hear from you! Want to learn more? Leave a comment below or email me at jen@mealdiva.com
